racist remark issued against me and thoughts of Mother's Day:

After a long tiring day of work I decided it was the perfect time to finish my Mother's Day shopping. And while I was in the process of doing that I thought I may as well pick up a few things for myself as well. On my way to the shopping destination I saw this crazy old guy who charged this pop bottle and punted it out of the way and I thought that it was funny and so I laughed. As I passed this old guy who must be in his 60's at least directed a derogatory word towards me. "Never again coon," were his words. Never again what? At first it did not bother me and it laughed it off as the ramblings of a crazy man but the more and more I thought of it the more it did bother me. The one positive is that he is so old that he will soon die which is terrible but I doubt too many people will miss that guy.

Why would this man say such a thing? What did I do to deserve this? It depressed me a little while I was in the store working through the list I had in my head of things I wanted to buy my mother and things which I needed. I was in the sports section checking out baseball stuff and there was this white man who had a distinct European accent and wanted to buy a baseball glove for his grandchild and asked me for advice about what size glove I thought would be suitable and I tried to help him even though I wasn't
affliated with the store in anyway. The the man warmly thanked me for my efforts and after the incident earlier in an odd way it made me feel better about humanity.

In case you were curious I have decided to get my mom a replacement remote control for her micro stereo. Damn those things are expensive to replace! I also will be giving her the instructions for her stereo but also a battery charger and some batteries. The batteries are supposed to charge in 3-4 hours which is half as long as it takes me to charge my batteries with my charger and she is a bit inpatient so I think it will be tolerable for her. The best thing is that she is not expecting any of it so I think she will be pleasantly surprised and hopeing she thinks that quite a lot of considerate thought has went into my surprise on my end.
