dvd player troubles involving an elderly woman:

I helped a woman at Walmart who seemed like she needed all the help she could get. I felt sorry for her because she clearly did not know the policies/way the store worked and had left her number with customer service actually thinking that they would return her call. The poor dear! She actually wanted technical assistance from them and they know jack about technology. Luckily for her she came into the electronics section where I was waiting at the cash register at the time.

A dvd that she bought got stuck in the dvd player and the tray was partially sticking out. The whole player was a mess. I did finally get the dvd out after trying to get the dvd to slide out but when this wasn't happening I had to brake off the tray and out it came.

I took her over to the customer service desk where she got the refund for the player and took her back to electronics to get a new dvd player. The poor woman was so confused that she thought that she had paid for the dvd player and put it in her bag and reminded her that she had to take the money she got from the return to pay for the new one. After she had cashed out her dvd player she asked if I could come over to set it up for her.

I asked if she didn't have any friends or relatives who couldn't have helped her set it up but apparently she did not so I agreed to come today but however by the time I got close and phoned asking for directions unfortunately she had to leave to go to a raffle likely a church one. I wanted no details about this so did not ask further. So I will be coming tommorow to do the setup for her but it makes me wonder how can someone as old as her could come into this country without friends or family to be her support network. It doesn't make sense and morally it doesn't seem right.
