How fellow group members fucked me up...:
4:30 p.m. 2006-11-21
Today I was supposed to interview an executive at a corporation for a major project. I took the bus and the subway and got there about 45 minutes early. I did not plan on getting there so early for my interview but I wanted to make sure I got there on time which I did.
I was sitting outside on a park bench eating and it was quite cool out but I was dressed warmly in my ski parka. I sat out there like 25 minutes then I walked to the front of the corporate building/factory where I was waiting about 10 minutes and in that time did not any of my group members.
I began to get concerned and decided to enter the building where they were probably waiting for me. I entered the building and signed in with the secreatary and walked over to the couch and saw none of my group members had arrived yet.
I sat on the couch and was definately concerned that none of my group members had arrived yet but thought that they would arrive at the nick of time.
The nick of time had arrived. Where are these guys! I was getting majorly concerned and I then got a call on my cell from one of my group members asking me for directions on how to get from the subway to where I was now.
They were apparently using public transit for the first time and didn't know it was going to take so long. What a time to try something new! At around the same time the executive arrived and was waiting to begin the interview already.
I went a different route so I could not tell her which bus to take but know it would probably not make any difference because it was already too late. The executive interupted firmly but fairly told me that he had to be in another meeting soon and told me to rebook my meeting later on in the week. He gave me his card and then left.
I briefly considered interviewing him without any of them but with the very few questions I had to ask him it was pointless to do. The group member who was compiling the list of questions for the interview was not here and that surprised me because I thought they were reliable.
Shortly after this one of my group members showed up and this point I was sitting on the couch and just stunned at the circumstances.
I finished the call with my group member on the phone and left with the group member I suspected would come late regardless of the circumstances. What a disaster! I never could of imagined this in my wildest nightmare!
No wonder I hated working in groups until recently. I even promised the person that got me the interview that out group would not waste his time and then this happens! It is so embarassing!
