how to advance from entry level subordinate into entry level management:

I have a work placement with a drugstore and I look at the environment and it certainly is a lot more relaxed the way that employees and managers converse. Even the way that employees help each other is unWalmart-like. So what is the problem you maybe asking. Well the problem is after I finish my placement they may decide to hire me but only in a very low position in the store and I have been studying to become mananger and such a proposition would be a waste of time by its self.
The worse part is there is no promise that an opportunity will open up for me if I do work in this capacity for any amount of time. The pay for such a position would be so low that it would take me quite a while to save up any money to be able to use towards my further education in management. On two levels in terms of experience and pay it is a waste of time.
I would like to support my workstudy sponsor on one hand to thank them for giving me an opportunity to further my education but on the other hand if they do not show faith in my managerial potential to give me at least an entry level managerial position then I may have no choice then to look elsewhere.
I am scared to look elsewhere because there is no guarantee that there is any better opportunities at any of the other companies. I don't really know what to do. I don't want to work at the lowest level because I have done that before and been ordered around by people that to be honest are beneath me in terms of intellgence and manners but also a passion for retail. Even though my 2 years and counting have been very trying at Walmart they haven't yet killed my passion for retail, just in the way they approach it.
